INTRODUCTION
In Pakistan, there are many delicious dishes! We've already covered how to order them, but now, how do we eat them? Unfortunately, this is not always so straightforward. In today's lesson, we'll learn how to ask, "How do you eat this?"
BODY
In Urdu, "How do you eat this?" is isay kaisay khatay hain? (SLOW) isay kaisay khatay hain? Let's break it down by syllable: i-say kai-say kha-tay hain? Now let's hear it once again: isay kaisay khatay hain? The first word isay means "this." Let's hear it one more time: (SLOW) isay, isay. Then you have kaisay, which means "how." Kai-say, kaisay. To recap here, we have isay kaisay khatay hain? Literally, this means, "how is it eaten." Let's look at the next word, khatay, which means "eat." (SLOW) Kha-tay khatay. All together, we have isay kaisay khatay hain? Literally, this means, "How is this eaten?"
Finally, we will talk about something that may come in handy for everyone who doesn't like hot food. Pakistani cuisine is known for being spicy, and if you are visiting the metropolitan city Karachi, you will probably find some typical spicy dishes. The question, "Is this hot?" in Urdu is Masalay dar hai? (SLOW)Masalay dar hai? The first word Masalay dar means "hot spicy." Let's hear it one more time: (SLOW) Ma-sa-lay dar hai? Next, we have hai, which in English means "is." All together, we have Masalay dar hai? Literally, this means, "Is spicy?"
