Alisha: This is Must-Know Urdu Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 25. In this lesson, you'll learn some everyday expressions.
Alisha: You'll often hear these expressions during regular conversations as part of the interactions of daily life.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
Alisha: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:
Syed: مرد بنو
(mard bano)
Syed: عید کا چاند
(eid ka chand)
Syed: ٹھوکنا
(thokna)
Syed: بس کر
(bus ker)
Alisha: Syed, what's our first expression?
Syed: مرد بنو
(mard bano)
Alisha: literally meaning "be a man." But, when it's used as a slang expression, it means "be brave."
Syed: [SLOW] مرد بنو [NORMAL] مرد بنو
Alisha: Listeners, please repeat.
Syed: مرد بنو

Alisha: Use this slang expression when you want to motivate a man to be strong or brave.

Alisha: literally meaning "eid moon." But, when it's used as a slang expression, it means "rarely seen."

Alisha: Use this slang expression when you want to indicate a person who is rarely seen. It is used when you used to be in touch with a person and then he/she disappeared and you do not see/meet them anymore. When you suddenly see that person, you call him/her

Syed: [NORMAL] آپ تو اب ملتے ہی نہیں عید کا چاند ہو گئے ہیں۔
(Aap tu ab miltay hi nahin eid ka chand ho gaye hain.)

Alisha: "You are seen very rarely. You don't even meet people now."
Syed: [NORMAL] آپ تو اب ملتے ہی نہیں عید کا چاند ہو گئے ہیں۔

Alisha: Okay, what's our next expression?
Syed: ٹھوکنا
(thokna)
Alisha: literally meaning "to knock." But, when it's used as a slang expression, it means "to hit, to beat, to slap."
Syed: [SLOW] ٹھوکنا [NORMAL] ٹھوکنا

Alisha: Use this slang expression when you want to indicate a person who hits or beats another person. It is also used when someone hits a car with another car or any other object.
Alisha: Now let's hear an example sentence.
Syed: [NORMAL] میں نے اسے ٹھوک دیا۔
(Mein nay issay thok diya.)
Syed: [SLOW] میں نے اسے ٹھوک دیا۔

Alisha: "I slapped him."

Syed: بس کر
(bus ker)
Alisha: literally meaning "do bus." But, when it's used as a slang expression, it means "stop it."
Syed: [SLOW] بس کر [NORMAL] بس کر

Alisha: Use this slang expression when you are tired or irritated with something and you want to stop someone.
Be careful while using this with elders as it is disrespectful.
