Alisha: This is Must-Know Urdu Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 16. In this lesson, you'll learn urdu expressions related to expressing oneself, part 1.
Alisha: You'll often hear these expressions during regular conversations as part of the interactions of daily life.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
Alisha: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:
Syed: میٹھا بولنا
(meetha bolna)
Syed: اِدھر اُدھر کی مارنا
(idhar udhar ki marna)
Syed: روشنی ڈالنا
(roshni dalna)
Syed: لمبی لمبی چھوڑنا
(lambi lambi chorna)
Alisha: Syed, what's our first expression?
Syed: میٹھا بولنا
(meetha bolna)
Alisha: literally meaning "to talk sweetly." But, when it's used as a slang expression, it means "to talk nicely, to sweet-talk someone."
Syed: [SLOW] میٹھا بولنا [NORMAL] میٹھا بولنا

Alisha: Use this slang expression when you want to say someone speaks sweetly or mildly. While it is often used in a positive way, it can also be used in a negative way to refer to someone who uses this sweet talk to fool others.

Syed: [NORMAL] وہ میٹھا بول کر اپنا مقصد حاصل کر لیتا ہے۔
(Woh meetha bol ker apna maqsad hasil ker laita hai.)

Syed: اِدھر اُدھر کی مارنا

Alisha: literally meaning "hit here and there ." But, when it's used as a slang expression, it means "beat around the bush."
Syed: [SLOW] اِدھر اُدھر کی مارنا [NORMAL] اِدھر اُدھر کی مارنا

Alisha: literally meaning "pour light." But, when it's used as a slang expression, it means "shed light on."

Alisha: literally meaning "to release lengthy lengthy." But, when it's used as a slang expression, it means "to exaggerate."
