Hello! |
السلام عليكم. |
(As-Salamu Alaykum) |
This is Afrah and welcome to our series, Urdu Top Words. So our today's lesson is top 10 hardest words to pronounce and I'm really going to help you with the pronunciation so let's get started. |
1. |
تمغہ |
(tamghah) |
“medal” |
غہ |
(ghah) |
The sound of |
غہ |
(ghah) |
or the alphabet |
غ |
(ghain) |
is always coming from here so try it from here, |
تمغہ |
(tamghah). |
اسے ایک تمغہ ملا. |
(Usay aik tamghah mila.) |
“He got a medal.” |
2. |
دلچسپی |
(dilchaspi) |
“interest” |
مجهے فلموں میں دلچسپی ہے. |
(Mujhay filmo mei dilchaspi hai.) |
“I have an interest in movies.” |
3. |
کهڑکی |
(khirki) |
“window” |
کهڑکی کهولیں. |
(Khirki kholein.) |
“Open the window.” |
Probably it is quite difficult because I think I've never studied this word in English or in Arabic so it's kind of hard to get it in the first go so just keep practicing and the tip would be to keep rolling your tongue lrr, lrrr, so your tongue will be touching your upper teeth and just practice it and don't be shy. |
کهڑ |
(khir) |
lrr, lrr, lrr. |
4. |
مونچھیں |
(munchein) |
“mustache” |
آپ کی مونچھیں اچھی لگتی ہیں. |
(Aap ki munchein achi lagti hain.) |
“Your mustache looks good.” |
You can see there is the word |
چ |
(che) |
and then you have |
ھ |
(hay) |
and you’re joining the two words |
چ ھ |
(che hay) |
and it becomes |
چھ |
(cha) |
مونچھیں |
(munchein). |
If you already are finished with “the Urdu alphabet”, |
اردو کے حروف تہجی |
(Urdu ky haroof e tahaji) |
then you will note |
ج |
(jeem) |
چ |
(chay) |
ح |
(hay) |
خ |
(khay) |
and all of these alphabets, |
ج |
(jeem) |
چ |
(chay) |
ح |
(hay) |
خ |
(khay) |
we use it with |
ھ |
(hay). |
For example for |
ج |
(jeem), |
it will be |
جھ |
(jeem hay) |
جھ |
(jha), |
چھ |
(chay hay) |
چھ |
(cha) |
خ |
(khay hay) |
خھ |
(kha) |
so I hope it helps. Just practice it, keep rolling. |
5. |
خوش قسمت |
(khush qismat) |
“lucky” |
میں خوش قسمت ہوں. |
(Mei khush qismat hun.) |
“I’m lucky.” |
6. |
چهلانگ |
(chalang) |
“jump” |
Again in this world, it's |
چھ |
(cha) |
چهلانگ |
(chalang) |
“jump”. |
لڑکی نے ہوائی جہاز سے چھلانگ لگائی. |
(Larki nay hawai jahaz say chalang lagai.) |
“The girl jumped off the plane.” |
7. |
گھٹنا |
(ghutna) |
“knee” |
One more time… |
گھٹنا |
(ghutna). |
So it is |
گ |
(gaf) |
and you’re adding it with |
ھ |
(hay) |
and it becomes |
گھ |
(/gh/) |
گھٹنا |
(ghutna). |
میرا گھٹنا زخمی ہے. |
(Mera ghutna zakhmi hai.) |
“My knee is injured.” |
8. |
اخروٹ |
(akhrot) |
“walnut” |
So this word |
خ |
(khay) |
it also comes from your, I would say like throat. So you'll really have to do it like hrr, hrr, hrr |
اخروٹ |
(akhrot). |
مجهے اخروٹ پسند ہیں. |
(Mujhay akhrot pasand hain.) |
“I like walnuts.” |
9. |
غذائیت |
(ghazaiat) |
“nutrition” |
اس کھانے میں اچھی غذائیت ہے. |
(Iss khanay mei achi ghazaiat hai.) |
“This food has good nutrition.” |
I would like to point it over here that the alphabet |
حروف تہجی |
(Haroof e tahaji) |
ذ |
(zaal). So, |
غذائیت |
(ghazaiat) |
غذائیت |
(ghazaiat). |
There are two alphabets in Urdu. One is |
ز |
(zay) |
and one is |
ذ |
(zaal) |
and there is a slight difference in how you say it. For example in this one, you are saying |
غذائیت |
(ghazaiat) |
and the one that is |
ز |
(zay) |
that is very, very sharp, very sharp. So this is, I would say, a bit more soft. |
10. |
تجسس |
(tajasus) |
“curiosity” |
اس کا تجسس اس کی صحت کو نقصان پہنچا رہا ہے. |
(Uss ka tajasus uss ki sehat ko nuqsan pohancha raha hai.) |
“His curiosity is damaging his health.” |
This is the end of our lesson. I hope you liked our video. See you next time! |
اللہ حافظ! |
(Allah hafiz!) |
