Alisha: Welcome to 3-Minute Urdu, Lesson 13 - Who Is It? In this lesson, you’ll learn how to ask who it is in Urdu.
Body
Alisha: Here's the way to ask 'Who is it?' in Urdu.
Syed: [Normal] یہ کون ہے؟ (Yeh kon hai?)
Alisha: First is a word meaning 'it'
Syed: [Normal] یہ [Slow] یہ (yeh)
Alisha: Next is the word meaning 'who'
Syed: [Normal] کون [Slow] کون (kon)
Alisha: Last is the word meaning 'is'
Syed: [Normal] ہے [Slow] ہے (hai)
Alisha: Note the rising intonation. Listen again to the question meaning 'Who is it?'
Syed: [Slow] یہ کون ہے؟ [Normal] یہ کون ہے؟
Alisha: Here's the way to ask, 'Who is that?' when referring to a man.
Syed: [Normal] وہ کون ہے؟ (Woh kon hai?)
Alisha: First is a word literally meaning 'he'
Syed: [Normal] وہ [Slow] وہ (woh)
Alisha: Next is the word meaning 'who'
Syed: [Normal] کون [Slow] کون (kon)
Alisha: Last is the word meaning 'is'
Syed: [Normal] ہے [Slow] ہے (hai)

Alisha: Here's a response meaning, 'That is a friend of mine' when referring to a man.
Syed: [Normal] وہ میرا دوست ہے۔ (Woh mera dost hai.)
Alisha: First is a word literally meaning 'he'
Syed: [Normal] وہ [Slow] وہ (woh)
Alisha: Next is the word meaning 'my'
Syed: [Normal] میرا [Slow] میرا (mera)
Alisha: Next is the word meaning 'friend'
Syed: [Normal] دوست [Slow] دوست (dost)
Alisha: Last is the word meaning 'is'
Syed: [Normal] ہے [Slow] ہے (hai)
Alisha: Listen again to the response, 'That is a friend of mine.'

Alisha: This literally means "Who is it?" in a really polite way. A very casual way to ask the same thing is
